class list
We offer all phases of dance from the beginner through pre-professional level. Take a look at our full class list below. We recommend that all beginner through intermediate level dancers take a minimum of 1 – 1 1/2 hour class twice per week. Intermediate through advanced level students are encouraged to
take a minimum of 2 1/2 – 3 hours of class per week in order to maintain their skill level and to continue to advance in their overall technique. All students proceed to the next level on an individual basis depending on their ability, attendance and attitude.

Ballet
Beauty, flow and elegance are inherent in the elements of ballet. Ballet is the classical dance form that can be mastered by itself or used as a technical base or supplement to other dance forms. Classes focus on overall body alignment and awareness with emphasis on proper usage of feet and legs and execution of turnout. Carriage and usage of upper torso and arms are also stressed. Traditional barre work, center work and combinations are included in all classes.
Classes are offered to students in all levels. Because Ballet is the base and most important building block of all great dancers, we encourage all of our students to study the “foundation discipline of all dance”. In addition to the classical ballet technique, these classes develop poise, grace and proper body carriage.

Jazz
An exciting and ever evolving dance form full of rhythm, syncopation, passion and life. Steeped in the rhythm of jazz music, a true American art form, jazz dance brings energy and life to all those who dance it. Classes explore body isolations of the head, shoulders, ribcage, feet and arms and encourage individual expression and the development of personal style. Jazz can be powerful and percussive or expressive and lyrical. Ever evolving, jazz dance is taught with the music of today together with the classical jazz of yesterday. Classes teach basic jazz dance technique, terminology and movement quality with an emphasis on proper execution of jazz isolations, rhythms and style performed to contemporary music.

Contemporary
Contemporary movement combines modern, ballet, and has a strong connection with the mind and body. The important dynamics of contemporary dance is through the energy and expression of the movement. Some of the movement can become expressive through story telling choreography routines while other pieces are created differently with strategic moves. Contemporary classes are offered to the Beginner through the Advanced/Pre-Professional levels.

Modern
Modern dance is a contemporary dance form that has its roots in ballet. It emphasizes the use of the floor for centering and grounding oneself in movement. This class focuses on the breath (inhale/exhale), which brings quality to one’s movement. Concepts of overcurve/undercurve, contraction/release, musicality and rhythm are explored. Teachers incorporate an eclectic blend of contemporary and post-modern movement into their classes.
Classes are offered to those students who have reached the Intermediate level of ballet training. These classes are taught with emphasis on the Graham and Limón techniques, which develop the flexibility and strength of the body as well as demonstrating the interesting and fine skill of the modern style.

Kinder
The Kinder program is offered to all students 3-4 years of age. This class is a combination of Pre-Ballet, creative movement and Tap. Class encourages free expression, while teaching basic elements of dance, including rhythm, movement quality, space, body awareness and shape. The child’s imagination and self-esteem are encouraged and strengthened through dance.
Children will dance and move in a stimulating environment focused on creativity, group interaction and the joy of self-expression. We offer convenient Weekday and Saturday classes to fit your schedule. This class develops rhythm, creative ability, motor skills and coordination as well as an introduction to basic dance technique. Classes meet once a week September through May.

Combo
The Combo program is offered to all students 5-6 years of age. This class is a combination of Pre-Ballet and Classical Jazz. Class encourages free expression, while teaching basic elements of dance, including rhythm, movement quality, space, body awareness and shape. Children will be encouraged to use their imagination, self-expression and group interaction while being introduced to the basic ballet movement, classical jazz and music concepts. We offer convenient Weekday and Saturday classes to fit your schedule. This class develops rhythm, creative ability, motor skills and coordination as well as an introduction to basic dance technique. Combo classes are planned to introduce students to the more advanced basic disciplines before they enter the higher more specialized and individual class levels. Classes meet once a week September through May.

Hip Hop
A high-energy class that uses the latest sounds in rap, R&B and pop music together with movements influenced by some of today’s hottest video choreographers. Hip hop encompasses movement that has elements of poppin', locking, and breaking as well as freestyle movement to give students the opportunity to develop their own sense of style. Hip hop is urban, it’s street, it’s diverse and forever changing. Please do not wear street shoes into class.

Pointe
Pointe work is the epitome of all young ballerinas. This strenuous discipline is introduced in the Intermediate ballet level. Only those students who take 2 weekly ballet classes and are found to be qualified by their teacher may participate.

Tumbling
Acrobatic classes (tumbling) help to develop strength, gymnastic skills, endurance and flexibility. They are offered to students who are 5 years of age or older. In addition to their Acro class, students MUST be enrolled in an additional “dance class” to help with their dance ability, coordination and overall progress.

Lyrical
Lyrical is ballet based movement that breaks the bonds of classical shapes and allows the body to flow with the rhythm of the music. Its' subtle freedom expresses emotion through the musicality and dynamics which passes through the dancers body as their own interpretation. Lyrical movement is originally choreographed to slower tempo's but can also be upbeat like jazz, pop, and contemporary. These classes are offered to the Beginner through the Advanced/Pre-Professional levels.

Tap
Classes emphasize the development and strengthening of basic tap technique and terminology highlighting the importance of rhythm and sound. Tap focuses on rhythms and intricate footwork, creating a percussion instrument out of the dancer’s feet. Just like jazz vocalists who add rhythms to music by scatting, tappers add their voice by “scatting” with their feet. Rhythm tap tends to be a heavier or harder-hitting form of tap than Broadway tap, and sounds are made not only with the bottom of the shoe, but also with the back, sides, and tip. Rhythm tap is a broad category that encompasses the hoofing styles of current stars such as Savion Glover and the late Gregory Hines and past masters such as Bill “Bojangles” Robinson and Jimmy Slyde.

Recitals
Our well organized and well run Recital is an integral part of the students’ dance education. Presented in a professional theatre and setting, it provides an additional extension of the benefits derived from Dance & Theatre Arts training. As part of their participation in the show, the students learn cooperation, to feel comfortable in front of an audience, stage presence, to take direction, to overcome shyness and to project their individual personalities. The Recital, a most enjoyable event, is the culmination of the students’ hard work and affords them the opportunity to perform and be a “star” on a professional stage while learning the thrills, inner workings, excitement and magic of live theatre.
